The Top Gear course as few turns with big accelerations and the "Ring" is a power hungry course.
Not to take anything away from the RS4 but for pure handling the Cayman S is a much better car. Take it to a circuit like Hockenheim, used by the Euro tuner's showdowns/competitions because it is known as a handling circuit where brute power is not as relevant and see what the outcome between the two is.
I'll agree with you that the Cayman S was/is held back by Porsche as to not impede unto the 911 territory and that's a shame. Ask Walter Rohl what he thinks about Porsche's internal politics when it comes to the Cayman VS the 911. That's a sure way of getting his blood boiling. He said the Cayman is a much better handling car, especially in the twisties.
The good news is there are already tuners putting the GT3's 3.8l motors in it. Now that should kick ***.
