Default Just curious, is there a reason the amp can't be mounted upside down?

Presumably making installation easier.

Default Never listen to radio, but checked AM & FM out this morning. No reception problems.

I live in NYC, though, so perhaps its a function of having really strong signals.

Maybe in fringe reception areas I will see some problems.

Default I went with the DLS through a large number of good reviews and descriptions of their sound...

characteristics. Bing (16psibrick) also spent a lot of time revising my equipment selections with me.

There was a few posts in the audio forum which implied that the DLS Iridium tweeters would be too deep to fit in the stock locations. As a result, we went with the Seas Lotus Performance tweeter since its very similar in character to the iridiums, but significantly shallower.

They are finally getting broken in. Will be tuned on Wed.

Default It is a personal preference of mine. Many people mount amps upside down with no problems...

others strongly suggest against it.

In my previous car I had a Memphis Belle amp mounted upside down and had two brand new amps go bad on me.

After the second died we flipped the installation over and never had another problem for 2+ years.

Were the dying amps a direct result of the upside down mounting? We can't be sure, but I am never mounting an amp upside down again, just to be safe :-P.

Default As a EE - I would say the mfr of the amps design them for a particular mounting position

to allow the heat to be removed by air circulation and component mounting on the boards and the heat sinks all can be a factor in that.

Default This is true especially for amps that use strictly passive cooling (no fans).

I had a Phoenix Gold amp mounted upside down for many years that never failed but that amp used active cooling with 1 fan on the top and vents on the side.

Default Well that would be a good reason. Does this amp have a cooling fan?

Or is the vent on that sweet custom stitched panel sufficient?
I was planning on installing a JL Audio 500/5 under my back deck, upside down. I asked on AW about this a while ago and didn't hear any objections. Since that amp doesn't have a fan, I was also planning on mounting it with space between the chassis of the amp and the deck to allow air flow. But after hearing about your experience I better think twice.
