RS4 flywheel nightmare.....

RS4 flywheel nightmare.....
Yesterday night out having some fun....Firm but not harsh shift at 7500 RPM from 3rd to 4th and BANG! Engine shut down immediately and car shuddered hard.
Had it towed to the dealership. Today they took it partially apart and the flywheel assembly is in many many pieces. The most problematic is the crankshaft tail flange is quite badly damaged.
The bellhousing did contain all the bits thankfully - many years ago I had a clutch come through a bellhousing on a high horsepower ford small block and that is not a very comfortable feeling! Missed my leg by about 3 inches. Glad to see the RS4 is better engineered in this regard.
Dealership is checking with Germany but is quite certain it will be a replacement engine as the crank can't be replaced in North America.
I let the dealership manager know in no uncertain terms that I expect full resolution inside 30 days.
First my wifes DSG melted down while parked a month ago and AoA bought the car back and gave us a good deal on a Q7 and now this!
They've given me a new A6 4.2 as a loaner. What a barge compared to the RS4! Very nice car but so much the opposite end of the spectrum - it feels like a boat compared to the RS4.
Not fun and not happy. This week is going to suck and it's only Monday.

Sorry to hear the news...
I'm glad to hear you have a decent loaner. Hopefully, it will get fixed quickly. Are they balking at the repair (i.e.: calling it abuse) or are they accepting it as a defect?

Sorry to hear that... the joys of first year ownership
Certainly a bummer but I have have to expect this kind of crap on a new high performance model... still this car has had far less problems than the new M5. Many of those guys are still dealing with various issues.

It's a stock flywheel, so who cares how badly it has been beat on?
Stock parts are engineered to withstand the rigors of a stock engine. If it was a lightweight, aftermarket unit, than AoA could tell him to F-off, but it's not.
You can buy a scatter shield that goes around the bellhousing for some cars, which helps contain the flywheel and clutch if they decide to explode and exit the vicinity.

I agree, I was just wondering if they were hassling him...
Just because something should get fixed under warranty, does not always translate into something getting fixed without a hassle.
