Default I changed at 1K too...

On most of my cars I went to synthetic after the initial break in..at about 1K miles. I think my latest new car had synthetic from the factory due to sludge issues with that engine (and due to the fact that there isn't much oil IN that engine)

aren't you glad to know if your factory 5W40 oil turned into 5W30?

Default Factory oil is synthetic, has been for quite a few years

Some dealers change it out in the states at delivery prep for Castrol Syntec 5W40. Castrol is known to have a high temperature shearing problem and a weak additive package. It's mostly a Group III synthetic blend.

Default Group 3...

poorer base stock? more additives needed to make up the difference?

Default Re: RS4 Used Oil Analysis (UOA) @ 1808 miles after break-in

I can see that the thinning(fuel dilution) could be related to break-in, but the sheer, or loss of viscosity index, that's a bit puzzling at 1800. Tells me the longer polymer strands to get from 5 to 40 aren't holding up. What say you?

Default Use nothing except for M1 and your problems, if any, shoud go away

I'm not so sure if what you are saying is correct, but I could be wrong. I haven't been to the dealer in 2 years and they were still using dino oil. You had to pay extra to get the synth. The only time dealer oil went into my car was when it was new. When ever I brought my vehicle in for service, I told them to use my own oil.
