RS4 vs. M3
#41
I'm not so sure I was actually hitting the rev limiter but if you say so OK! I did power shift once so maybe that's what you heard. I had a carbon clean about 2 months ago and I do actually still get an acceptable pull around 7500+. I'll certainly try shifting lower and see what happens.
If you listen to the video, you very clearly hit the rev limiter in 2nd gear at 0:14. It's very distinct.
But by all means keep pushing it to 8000 if it makes you fastest. Maybe your car is special?
p.s. here's a good example of that RS4 rev limiter. You can hear it on a couple of spots in the video
1. when the car hits the launch assist rev limiter in the JHM launch assist demos (starting around 0:27)
2. when dan@JHM is ****ing around in the car at the end of the video doing donuts he hits the rev limiter right at 1:36)
Watch the whole vid. It's inspiring. Since that video, Dan from JHM wen 12.29 @ 111 and a customer here in Toronto went 12.28 @ 112.45

I tend to stick to the road courses so I'll just have to kinda take ur word on that. I'll try it out vs an RS4 that's redlining and see how it goes. If BADRS4 smokes me I'll just blame u!

re: the shifting thing, just do a pull in 2nd gear from 3000 RPM against BADrs4. Both shift at 8000 into 3rd and 4th if you have enough room. Make note of that gap between the two of you (if any) since you may have RS4s with different health levels/carbon/maintenance/mods.
Then do it again with your shifting at 7500 while he still shifts at 8000. Don't powershift, just normal shifting. See what happens.

Have you seen GTBoard's rolling races? Gives good perspective where alot of cars stack up.

and no the RS4 will not be faster in a drag with a M3 DCT.
