Default Small air filter on air intake tube

So I started to take out my air filter box today and in the process I discovered the small pre filter (looks like a lint screen for a dryer)in the intake tube. It was a mess with all sorts of dust and leaves. After a through clean the car ran much faster. I could not believe it!

Has anyone else found this to help with performance.

It also seemed to run cooler.

Default it's referred to as the snow screen in Audi lit

some people remove it, and Audi recommends cleaning every 10k, IIRC.

Default you should take a look at the lower half of your airbox some time...

...mine was like an entomology exhibit last time I cleaned it.

Default 2nd...

when i removed mine to clean, it dumped some debris into the main airbox. had to clean that out of there. this was w/o filter change, but just cleaning the snow screen.

Default No photo off-hand, but part illustration inside...

...should give you an idea where this micro screen/filter/strainer is positioned.

Accessed by dismantling the intake manifold.

Definitely worth cleaning out every now & then (every oil change, for example).
