I just sold my 2007 Jeep SRT. It was a lot of fun and sure creaked a lot less than my brand new Audi does. The fuel mileage was abysmal - and granted I didn't buy it for its efficiency but man...I barely averaged 9 mpg while driving in LA traffic.
It was fast as hell in a straight line, and equally as bouncy in the turns due to the suspension setup combined with 20" stock wheels and fun-flats.
the 2008s get HIDs, a touch-screen NAV, darker interior carpeting and seats, with different embroidery (SRT versus SRT8). The 2009s have a new color option - the blue you see on the new minivans - which is handsome but understated. They should really have offered a graphite grey - that would look sick. You can see all the differences among the years and trims at www.wkjeeps.com

PS - We've consistently tested the 2007 model significantly faster than the 2006 and 2008 ones we've had in, for whatever reason. Chrysler's mum on the difference but we think they changed the engine's ECU programming in the later years which has improved shift points but reduced the power somewhat.

i have an 08 jeep srt. we had an 06 too. so that shows you what i think of it. and yes, it creaks and squeaks a lot less than my rs4. also, the headunit kicks the crap out of what's in the rs4. overall, i love our jeep. not as refined as a cayenne, but the price is a lot less. and yes, the mpg sucks. our's averages 13.5 with mixed driving.
i drove the **** out of one at the drivesrt experience last year and it's amazing what it does considering that it's a jeep.
