That is the reason I wanted an RS4. But it is too much of a compromise to live with so much less power. As said earlier the 996TT is the perfect balance of raw power and handling.

I agree with you and understand. Perhaps I am used to having power from down low, through the middle, and on top. If you are comparing the driving style that is needed for S2000 then I also get it. I've driven those plently, but constant high reving is not what I personally admire nor is it something I expected from Audi.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone calling an E55 an old man's car... even within this closed minded community.

I don't think that any E class suits someone in your supposed age bracket. You would do better with a Porsche or something a bit more "younger" I think, but its up to you in the end.

Personally I'd get an R8.

not sure why everyone is taking this so personally...

the problem is, you did the 'floor it in 3rd from a low rpm' test and thats how you determined your impression of the car

if you own the car you learn how to get the most out of it at all times...sure, sometimes i find myself in 3rd going 30mph and i step on it and im not 'floored'...

but as long as you become friends with the power curve and the pedal then you WILL be impressed

besides, my love for my car goes WAYYYY beyond the power...for example, i would NEVER trade my car for my friends '07 viper...

sports car. The RS4 is a sports sedan with 4 doors and a usable back seat and it weighs 4000 pounds. It has all wheel drive and can be used year round in any kind of weather. The 996tt also costs about 50K more than the RS4. If your only criteria is power why don't you buy a Bugatti Veyron, then you can say every other car is underpowered. If you want to stick to comparing the E55 to the RS4, I've owned both and IMHO the RS4 is hands down a better all around car and if both cars are stock it is about as equally fast in a straight line as the E55 when driven correctly, and much faster when driven on twisty roads.

At high rpms the S2000 is screaming like a buzzsaw. The RS4 revs like that but still feels like a V8. I can try and describe it all day long with words but you really just need some good driving time above 5000 rpms on a wide variety of roads. Then make your decision.

Try taking off from a stoplight at full throttle while making left turn. The Benz would be all over the road with the safety electronics disabled. The RS4 stays glued to the road and just pulls. It is so confidence inspiring under all conditions.

Again, straight line pull from a rolling start in dry weather is the only place that the MB's performance will be better than the RS4.

And if you read the posts above I have settled on 996TT being my next car. I think the R8 is beautiful... but does it not have the same engine as RS4?
