I had previous cars custom tuned and flashed and it made a huge difference compared to a over the shelve tune.
Yes it can, and that is the only way to really get any value out of spending this much money.

If the stock ECU is pulling out timing and losing power due to carbon build up, what's the point of a chip? A better investment might be using top tier gas, fuel treatment and oil changes/carbon cleaning every 5000 to try to keep the stock power from dropping.

YMMV.
I think I would tend to agree here. Too little to be gained for the money and too risky on your $22,000 engine. The wheels are different. Same amount of money but no downside/risk whatsoever. Still there are those who will always just have to mod.

It certainly is. Both the SPS Select and Select-Plus are fully compatible and functional with the RS4.

More info about the SPS switches is available here

Like you said,

"When does it end?...it ends when you sell your car. Then it starts again when you buy your next car. Modding is an ongoing hobby"

Now I'm already working on mods for the R8, First up stasis exhaust. The great thing is they have now partnered with Audi so the mods they put on do not void the warranty. Will be great for chipping and no worries

I have Revo, I didn't expect much, but was happy with 280 ft.lbs. on 91, and am most happy about the throttle response map, saves pressing the S button (Milltek FB). Power was 330 but only at 7300, no ram air in the front and it ran out of puff early.
My Revo dealer does not have an AWD dyno, but we've been out a couple of times on the road to tweak, once after I said it was too rich from the AWD dyno run. Seems pretty tunable to me.

George, what octane range will the RS4 tune handle?

I had rich/carbon issues (CEL) and they were taken out with a Revo tune. I believe factory tune is rich for the longevity in higher speed Euro driving, many complain of sooty exhausts in Audis in the US.

Did you have it custom tuned?

Twice, but real-time on the road, not on a dyno.

cool. I had previous cars road tuned as well as dyno tuned.
Only problem with road tuned was doing crazy runs on the street. I did not drive but I went along and I was like oh my God...

I have a couple Revo dealers in my area that have 4wd dynos.
Being a naturally aspirated car I am not totally sold on the benefit of reflashing the ECU since I have no plans to add any mods (intake, exhaust etc..) At least not as long a I have factory warranty. Although I know what people say, the first thing they get rid off on their car is the warranty.
