I believe it's one of those (8) little black and red things..
that are on the valve covers that cover each spark plug. Not long ago only one coil was responsible for firing all cylinders and it did so via distributor. With the advances in fuel injection, most decent cars have a small coil responsible for each cylinder and no distributor is required. The coil or "coil pack" is typically integrated right into the boot that slides over the spark plug. Thats why you don't see some big "spark plug wire" going from the plug to a distributor somewhere else in the engine bay in newer cars. New systems are much more compact and accurate.
