Used RS4 buyers
Those of you who have RS4s in the USA and purchased them used did you have to travel to another city or another state to find one? I'm in Houston, TX and they're not exactly common here. I'll be in the market for one when my lease is up on my B8 A4 in November.

That is probably what you will have to do. There have been several that seem to be for sale now. The key is to get the car inspected by a Audi dealership (you call them and arrange payment then have the owner bring the car in) This way you know the car is good or not. You can also post on the local forum for where the car is located and see if anyone can swing by to see the car. Most credit unions/banks can help you arrange the purchase in another state.

My guess is if you're patient or if your willing to travel in the five state area - you'll find one. But I would only consider a CPO'd car in that case.

I have been looking for a few months now. Waiting to hopefully find a real powderpuff. I am most interested in an Avus, Daytona, White or Black RS4 with black interior and less than 20k miles. Depending on how picky you are about color, mileage, etc. there are cars available.... but not local in my case

I just picked up a Mugello Blue 2008 sedan with 16K miles, CPO, from Schaumburg Audi in Illinois. I live in Vermont.
You'll probably need to leave your market or work with a local dealer to find what you're looking for. They're not at all impossible to find, but if you know what you're looking for you'll either need to look long or far, or get lucky. Two days after I committed to mine another came up at my preferred Audi dealer, a longtime customer traded in a 2007 with 18K miles.
I think I found mine on Autotrader. Many dealers will post RS4s and other hard to find models on eBay, Autotrader, Cars.com right away because they know they'll get their price and might as well open the traffic floodgates. They get a lot of calls on these and will look for assurance that you're prepared to buy pretty quickly (deposit). They're used to getting a couple of inquiries an hour on a good vehicle that's this rare, good to keep that in mind.
I've purchased a couple of different cars online, as long as they're coming from a reputable dealership, have CPO or existing factory warranty you should be ok. Make sure to get plenty of photos before committing, and be vigilant on delivery.
Happy hunting!

Well I decided to skip the RS4 this round. The lack of availability and the carbon problems with the engine made it difficult for me to convince my wife to spend this kind of money that may be a problem down the road. I decided on a 2010 S5 instead. She loves the way it looks and honestly so do I. I think I get one a few years from now and make it my hobby car.
Thanks for everyone's tips and advice.

2.5" downpipes and catback exhaust ought to work well for making power on the S5 4.2...and the JHM tune appears to be getting ready for widescale launch (although you can always get tuned if you contact them directly).
All in all the S5 4.2 will be a force to be reckoned with. Great looking car, and thanks to some good mods showing up, great performing car shortly.
