You almost see as much of them as taxi cabs, at least at the hotel I usually stay at where there's at least 5 or so always clogging up the lobby driveway.

i watched a documentary about this recently, i think on HBO, and was amazed by the description of the amount of cash that came into south FL in the 80's. so much cash, people were just arbitrarily buying real estate, cars, boats, etc. in all-cash transactions. And the show made it pretty clear that it wasn't just a few 'elite' kingpins, but literally hundreds or even thousands of individuals.

It's very true and still goes on today. The collapse of the real estate market has had a huge effect on the drug trade. When you can no longer launder the money the chain breaks.
