Default A $#&#@#! rock cracked my windshield today

Driving on the highway today and caught a rock right in the left middle area of the windshield. It left a crack that looks like a bead of water about the size of a dime, except its not wather, its a break.

It's a) distracting and b) I'm concerned about the integrity of the glass.

My questions are:

1) How much will this cost to fix?
2) How long does it usually take to fix?
3) Is this something I can go to my insurance for?

Default It will cost you your insurance comprehensive deductable.

Takes 1 day. BUT don't get the Audi windshield. It is inferior to a good US made(PPG) windshield. Plus US made has less distortion and will have less pitting.

Default Re: It will cost you your insurance comprehensive deductable.

Ok question, a while ago (back in like Feb or March) I had about $900 of repairs done to my S4. My hood had a dent from a construction site, so it had to be stripped, filled, sanded and repainted. Then my front fender was screwed up from an incident in a parking lot.

I didn't claim it through my insurer, I just paid for it. Can I retroactively claim that as having paid my deductable? I have all the documentation about the repairs.

Or am I still at $0 contribution?

And how much will a new windshield like the one you describe cost me? Where do I go to get this done? Do I have the dealer do it and ship the glass to them? Or what?

Also is this the kind of thing I can drop the car off in the morning and pick it up in the night?

Default Happened to me in Salt lake. I called the dealer to see who they'd recommend, it ended up being a

good move. They did it the whole thing in about an hour. Maybe even less. OEM windshield. Installed it cost me $375. No problems after. I decided to skip the insurance, cause my time dealing with it was worth more than my deductable.

Dealer or aftermarket repair, doesn't matter. Around $500, IIRC.

Default Most major insurance companies....

will pick up the tab with a fifty dollar deductable (not your normal full deductable), providing that the crack meets certain criteria (in driver field of vision, a certain length, etc.). Insurance companies view damaged windshields as a safety issue that can cost more if left unfixed. Do not go to your dealer unless it's just for a recommendation.. All they will do is call a glass company to come replace it. Call your insurance agent and see if they will pay. My agent basically gave me a choice of any glass company in my area. I called the glass company, they ordered the Audi glass and I had a choice of them coming to my house to replace in my driveway or me going to them. It's very easy and only $50. Don't let the glass company change your blades. (They sometimes try to sell you crappy replacement blades.)

Default NO, they are 2 different incidents and 2 different types of claims.

The window is considered a comprehensive claim and the other would be considered as a collision type of claim.Plus they happenned at 2 differnet times. BTW ,comprehensive claims are not rated and do not cuase your insurance to go up.

I seem to be getting a lot of different numbers here. $50, $350, $500? I guess the first one is w/Insurance help.

Not more than $500, installed at dealer. Memory isn't what it used to be, sorry.

Default Is there any difference in quality between various windshields?

My insurance agency gave me the # to the glass place they use. They said if I use them then I won't have to go through the hassle of getting reimbursed.

I am just wondering, are there varying qualities of windshield glass? Does it matter? They are probably not going to use an OEM windshield.
