Default 18 with an Audi S4: Common in New Jersey

Good Grades Earn Students Luxury Cars

HACKENSACK, N.J. - Alex Tsaur loves his sporty black Audi S4. It has soft leather seats, satellite radio, all-wheel drive and a moon roof. When leased last fall, it was worth more than $50,000. Tsaur says he earned it- by pleasing his parents with As and Bs in school.

In the wealthy enclaves of North Jersey, 18-year-old Tsaur is hardly unusual driving a prestige car at a tender age. His beloved Audi has good company in the seniors' parking lot at Tenafly High School. One recent afternoon, the 122 cars sparkling in the sun included 13 BMWs, eight Mercedes-Benzes, seven Lexuses and six fellow Audis, plus a sampling of Volvos and beefy sport-utility vehicles.

"It's Tenafly," Tsaur says with a shrug. "It's one of those towns where you're pressured, kind of obligated to get a nice car. Your friends have a nice car, you have a nice car. It's a social thing.

"Girls see you more," he adds. "They see you have a nice car, they know you're rich."

And fast. As Tsaur squeals out of his parking spot, he swerves to avoid a car backing up. The noisy scene is commonplace after the last bell rings at affluent local high schools, where students often boast more expensive rides than their teachers.

Default Living in the bay area, you see a ton of highscool kids driving big jack cars.

My kids are really young, I hope my Audi holds up for 12 years so my kid can drive something nice. Just Kidding. He can buy his own damn car when he's old enough, just like I did. It is called building good work ethic as my dad would say. How do kids learn from buying them a BMW at 16? It gives them no goals...the gateway to drugs!

Default I kinda of agree but on the other hand many people told my parents i waqs spoiled

and would end up liek that when they bought me a audi when i was 17 but hey i work full time now and buy my own cars so i say it is just as much the kids as it is the way the parents pamper them or not.

Default 1972 AMC Hornet. Donated by Great Aunt who was too old to drive.

Three-speed manual transmission on the column... no power steering, no power brakes, no f-ing radio...

Got me from point A to point B. Sometimes. In style? Never.

Default So very, very, true

I can vouch for this since I live here in North Jersey. I drove a 75 Caprice Classic with 150k on the clock when I was in high-school. My school was alot like young Alex's above. I remember some broad drove a Bentley to school. Had to bust my *** for the S4. My kids will drive a Pinto till they learn how to drive right. Have nothing against the rich though, since I aspire to be one of them some day. Can't fault a guy for making some cabbage.

It is satisfiying though when you see one of these young Camerons on the side of the road next to their wadded up cars crying, afraid of what Morris will do to them when they get home. Yes, I am an evil, bad, bad, man.
