Default 2004 S4 RPM Question.

Could anyone tell me what the optimal RPM for the power to kick in?

Should I go over 5K RPM? or even 6K??

Please let me know.

Optimal RPM to shift for max accel? Far as I know, it's redline.

Not so. Maximum torque is achieved at 3750 or so. See reply above...

Default "Straddle the curve", my friend...

Ideally, you'd shift at an RPM which brings you back to the same point on the horsepower curve. In other words, the RPM point where the hp is the same before and after the shift. But this can't be the case with us because there is no noticable drop off in power past our measured (not claimed, as in Audi literature)hp peak which is about 6800 rpm and our rev limiter is set at around 7100 rpm. Since this is the case, it's best to shift at redline in our car. You want rpms in the next gear to be as high as they can be. Ideally, for maximum acceleration, you should have your rev limiter moved to about 7500 rpm, which many chips and flashes do. This would allow you to shift at 7400 or so which would land you back at a hp in the next gear which correlates to the hp you're at in the current gear.
