2nd gear synchro seems to have given up. Grinding on downshift, a litte stiff on upshift. Car has new clutch and flywheel. Anyone know what I can expect on a repair or alternatives? Thanks.

Right now vwparts.com has a complete gearbox on sale for $499. If shows up as part # 01X-300-044-EX (regular price is $3468).

I am sure there are more parts involved but getting that at 86% off is a good start. Labor will be another issue.

You might try changing the oil in the transmission. I have found the fresh lubricant can help a little. I would use Audi's OEM manual transmission oil
for your year model S4 as specified in ETKA.
