Default 4.2l V8 major oil consumption/leak

Hello, I'm new to the Audi world, and I've recently purchased a 2004 S4 V8. The car consumes/leaks 1 litre of oil ever 100 miles!! I can see no obvious leaks on top of the engine and the timing chain area appears to be dry, also no smoke from the exhaust but a slight whiff of hot oil from engine area. I have yet had a chance to take off the under guards. Is there any common leaks to check for? Thank you for reading and any help you can suggest.

well the 4.2 V8 they threw in the b6's are notorious for losing oil. but 1L per 100 miles is way excessive. my b6 uses about 1L per 1000 Miles. i'm fairly new myself and couldn't tell you were to look first. besides the standard engine places. i would probably check your coolant first and make sure its not a headgasket

Thats super excessive for oil consumption. You or a mechanic should also check the cam tensioner seals, cam seals, and valve cover gaskets (closer to rear of motor) for leaks. Once you are able to take off the skid plates, it will be easier to find wear the leaks coming from.

Good luck!

I was having similar trouble after an oil change. It was my oil pressure sensor that was bad and was leaking all over the place. Had it replaced and my problems went away.

Check the valve cover gaskets. Also, in my case, a damaged oil cooler was the culprit. From all I've read, the valley pan gasket can be a source of failure resulting in oil pooling under the intake manifold as well.

Default CRAZY OIL CONSUMPTION.

I’m at round 200-300 when oil light comes on. Did you ever find out what your issue was? Unreal how much oils they burn. Thx.
