Default 450 miles on the clock, already have some issues....

Taking it easy with the car, not taking it over 4k rpm till its broken in. Problem 1 (this one is big) it seems one of the seals in the engine bay is leaking. My guess is valve cover on the drivers side. The smell of burning oil comes into the car, via the vents if the car stops on any sort of grade. If i lift the hood after a drive, the smell is the strongest on the drivers side.

Tonight I decided to vag the car, see if any codes are sitting around. I had a bunch of codes, most were clearable, (I think the car had the battery disabled at some point) Two errors were unclearable....

I tried clearing the codes, no luck. Two more things, it seems my rear view mirror doesnt want to tilt down when I chuck the car in reverse. It will work if I have the mirror switch set on the passenger side mirror. Then when I go forward it won't come back up unless i click the mirror switch to the center position.
The other odd issue, was when I put the cruise control on to let say 75mph indicated on the speed guage dial. Then I go reset the average mph in the trip computer, and it says my average is only 70.

Anyone have thoughts on any of this?

Default About the passenger side mirror

It will only dip down in reverse when the switch is set to that mirror (that's how it's designed). It will tip back up once you drive forward at 10MPH or faster, or when you turn the car off.

Default Burning smell is most likely cosmoline burning/melting off...

Speedo's on all Audi's are set to be 5 - 10% optimistic.

Default Yea but the aveage mph on the computer display and the guage shouldnt be off that radically...

On my b5 s4, they were dead on with each other. I dont mind if the car shows an optomistic speed, what gets me is the trip computer and the speedo haveing a 5mph descrepancy. If the two agreed with each other that would be fine. I am pretty sure its motor oil on engine block, i've had cars in the past that have done that and i know that smell very well. Unless Cosmoline is made up of oil I have my doubts. That and why would one side of the engine bay smell like that and the other not....

Default You have discovered what many of us already know. The Speedo is not acurate

Car and driver had an article about 2 years ago which addressed the inacuracies of auto speedometers German cars (BMWs were the worst) are purposely made to read higher than actual. I figure it is probably 3 mph higher than actual, varying with tire wear and type. BTW you may also discover that the outside temp displayed is also not very acurate. Mine generally reads 3-4 degrees warmer than actual.
