Adding Oil

Adding Oil
I have about 8,500 miles on my car and I've had it since May 2004. I did the 5,000 mile service back in April of this year. Anyway, I got a low oil light on the car last weekend on a 100 mile trip home from Pennsylvania. I was driving the car hard but mostly on the highway and nothing too crazy. Is that normal? The light was gone the next day but I checked the oil and it seemed a little low. Any recommendations for adding oil? Brand? Viscosity? Etc.?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Yes, it's normal for the majority of our cars (most people experience oil consumption, there are a f
ew that don't) As for adding oil, it would be recommended that you did, perferrably a synthetic that meets the oil guidelines discussed in excess here (do a search for 'audi oil requirements/guidelines'). For a quick reference, a lot members here use M1 Ow-40, 1/2 a quart at a time until you're at the level you feel confortable at.

I'd go to the dealer. Lots has been written about this on here but...
a low oil light 3500 mi after service? They may have left you a little low as dealers have done to many here and then maybe you burned a "little". Then again maybe you are burning a lot or leaking. Let the dealer fill it to document it, I'd say. Make sure they do paperwork.

1 quart per 1k miles is normal per audi specs....
use either 5W-30 or 0W-40 depending on where you live. I would suggest the German Blends of Castrol or M1 as "easy-to-find" oils to use. You should check your oil at every other fuel stop. Chances are your oil was 1/2 quart to a full quart low at your oil change and it burned another quart or so, that seems to be pretty typical since the ammount of oil this car takes on an oil changes seems to fluctuate so much. Also remember to always check your oil on a level surface (and change your oil as well).
