After Market Speakers

Good question. . .I didn't go for bose for the same reason. .
and now I am wondering how to improve the factory sound.
The stock sound system is not bad at all, but it could use a little more bass to give a more full sound. When I listened to the Bose, it had more punch to it and you could tell it had more wattage, but it really sounded like most of the sound was coming from the rear.

Bose was definitely the way to go in this car, but...
You can still get great sound with the right speakers and amplifiers. IMO, to get a response similar to the Bose system, you'd need to get a high quality set of component speakers, an 8 or 10 inch sub, and an aftermarket amplifier.
Not wanting to go the aftermarket route in my new S4 (in my old car I had some of the best audio components available - Boston Acoustics pro mids/highs, Precision Power amps, and JL Audio subs), I opted for the Bose. While the Bose does not have the sound clarity and deep bass response of my old system, it is definitely the best stock sound system I have EVER heard. Then again, the Bose system was not $6,000 either. I would definitely recommend going for the Bose system in this car unless you want to do some major work to bring the system to the same sound quality.
I also did not want the sat radio at first either, but after a couple of months with it, I'm hooked on XM. They play music that you don't hear on any broadcast radio stations.
Just my $.02, hope it helps.

Re: After Market Speakers
Nope! The thing I really don't like is the shark fin and the Sat. radio I don't use. Unless, they got the Nav+ and I will give up the look....
