I started noticing a fairly loud rattle coming from the sunroof area in my 05 Avant. The rattle started since day 2 of getting my car. It sounds like something is loose. The noise is especially louder when the sunroof cover is open. I searched the forum and have found this to be a fairly common problem and can be fixed by lubricating the sunroof area better. However, I was not clear what exactly I need to do. I am still 3k miles from the first service so if anyone has any suggestions on a DIY fix, I would really appreciated. Thanks!!

I had it early on as well. They lubricated it and I haven't had it since.

The dealer has a lubricant for rubber window seals that can be absorbed by rubber. Don't know if you can get it at an auto parts store. Anyway, it is applied with a cloth to the sunroof rubber gasket. Should take care of the problem for a long time. Just lubricate from time to time. My 2002 had the exact same problem.
