Graco Snugride here, too, plus a Britax Roundabout...
We have two kids - one 2 yr old and one 4 month old. Infant seat (facing rear) goes behind passenger seat. It forces the front seat just a little farther forward than I would normally sit to drive, but I could do it if I had to (5'10"). The Roundabout is front-facing behind the driver's seat and there are no issues with legroom in the front.
The LATCH attachments make installation a snap, and the trunk (in my sedan) is big enough for a single stroller plus groceries/Costco stuff. It's a great family car. Of course the wife has an SUV so we're covered for the bigger stuff, but I'd guess with an avant you have the best of both worlds.
Congratulations! Don't sell the car yet, until you really feel like you have to. I found that I really could've gotten a 2-seater instead of the S4 since we rarely take my car, but I'm not too bummed about my choice, anyway.
Best of luck - hope you got your sleep before the baby arrived!

I have a two year old...
and we used a Peg Pregio (sp) infant seat and a Britax Marathon (which is BIG) for the past ~18 months. Our primary family car is an MDX and the S4 is used infrequently with the boy as it's simply tight. It will work fine but we also like the abilty to carry a stroller then put in groceries, etc. without having worry if everything will fit. The other concern (at least for me) is that young children all of the things that go along can be messy. I don't worry about the MDX but I'm **** about the S4.
