Default Any one ever run SNOW CABLES on thier S4. I bought some

just in case for the drive down the mountain however the Contis did fine so I never used them - they are ISO approved for low fender clearance.

I think the manual says NO to snow chains and the like. Just FYI.

For the record, the tires that come stock (conti's) suck in the snow.

Default i don't care if the Contis did OK in the snow this time or the next 5 times..you are taking an

unnecessary risk with your car and your life, in my opinion. just my opinion

Default depends on the conditions....in this instance the car as well (flame suit on)

as 4x4 SUVs on snows and 2wd trucks with chains - read orig post from 2004-12-28 21:39:54

Default I agree with you...

It depends on many factors:
Obviously, where you live. How much snow you get in a year. How many miles you have to drive your car in however much snow you get, wherever you happen to live, etc, etc, etc.

Are snow tires better in the snow? Of course. Is it a death sentence not having them? No. In fact, I'd bet that you're better off in an S4 with Quattro and summer tires than a rear wheel drive car with snow tires. Or even a front wheel drive car with snows.

Bottom line, if you get a lotta snow or plan to drive in much snow, get snows. If not, you're probably fine. IMHO

Why don't you ante up a thou and get yourself another set of wheels with proper winter rubber?

Default I think the car with summer tires in any snow/ice is a death trap

It's not like another set of winter wheels and proper rubber is a lot of money considering....
