Default Yes and Yes.

I've heard of it and yes it can detect it. Pop radar is illegal for writing violations though because they need to have a lock-on.

thanks, the article mentions though that some officers might write a ticket based just on pop!

Default I guess it depends on the state...

From what I understand by POP, they can get a quick read on how fast you are going, and then decide whether or not to lock-on and give you a ticket.

Truth is, if a cop wants to give you a ticket, he's going to find a way regardless. Pacing, lock-on, VASCAR, you name it.

Default Check out the V1 web site...

Mike Valentine has something there that explains why it shouldn't be used to write citations... something around 80% error possibility, or some such.

Also, contrary to what Wes posted, I thought the V1 didn't detect it...

Default My reasoning for saying yes is because a friend of mine has a V1...

and we ran into each other randomly at a stoplight. He gave me the heads up that a motorcycle cop was down the road a bit shooting pop radar. And he was right, a few hundred feet later my passport went beserk!

Default Interesting...

I haven't encountered it here in the Twin Cities (not sure if they have it yet), but I though I had read a couple reviews that stated that it won't detect POP mode.

If it doesn't, I'm sure they're working on a solution...

Default I've read the same thing, including the recent review.

But from what my buddy says he was able to detect it.

My passport picked it up to, but I saw him with my eyes first.

And they like to pop from the rear while moving.

Default According to the latest tests I've seen, they V1 doesn't do to good with POP

If you're not the only car on the road, and the officer is turning on read radar (non-pop) do get a good lock you shouldn't have any worries. I usually don't speed when I'm the only car on the road anyways. You'd have the same problem with ordinary radar if he were to pulse you.

POP doesn't concern me as long as you don't drive totally insane. Any radar detector is not a license to drive like an idiot. You still need to be smart about how and when you speed and properly interprete the signals your detector gives you.

Default Re: anybody heard about "pop radar"? can a V1 detect it?

I had a V1, but my wife kept getting tickets because of POP radar. I had a Passport SR7 plus shifters installed and it so far has worked quite well.
