Was thinking of joining NASA (Nat. Auto Sport Assoc.) and doing some of thier open track HPDE events.

Default Just curious if folks had fun.

If the events were run well and how much actual track time, per group you got.
When not on the track, if you're in group 1, do you get class room instructions as well ?

I'll try over on the performance forum. Didn't think of that.

Default If you only did maybe 2-3 events a year, how much wear/tear would that put on the car ?

Aside from tires ?

Do you have a Subaru just for the track ?
Or is it just a WRX that you don't mind beating on, as opposed to driving the S ?

Default I have run with a few different groups and

I thought NASA was run the best. You do get some classroom time in both 1&2 groups.I usually dont finish the last session just because I feel I have beat my car enough for the day.You get around 4, 20 min. sessions.I prefer to tow my car just so I don't have to worry about getting home if somthing should fail.(brakes, tires, suspension,or worst case you crash)

Default I will not run with them and here is why.....

at least in this area - SO Cal - esp. if you have little track experience. I have been out with this group. there is very little instruction and very little control - when I rode along with a local tuner at CAl speedway everyone else on the track was all over the place - they had no clue what they were doing - it was a zoo - he was passing much faster cars, corvettes , vipers supras, and tube frame nascar type trucks with carbed V8. - they pass with no control and anywhere on the track. then I over heard an instructor tell how he signed of his first time student to go out alone cause the intructor was scared to go out with this bad driver in his Saleen S/C mustang. I would not risk my car or body in these conditions. I hear it is better in other states and in more advance groups.....but this is my one time (and last) experience with them. just my two cents.

Default I can understand what you might be feeling...

however with something so basic as driver classification and safety, a n00b at one of their events should NOT have to discuss the matter with a chief instructor. If the event was indeed an HPDE event, sometimes you have to evaluate the event for what it is, and decide if you're willing to accept that level of risk and that level of instruction.

Quick Reply: Anyone do the HPDE / NASA events ???
