But that oil takes more in that 4 seconds or so then youll ever give it...
Your engine sees MAYBE 1/10000 of it's life near it's limits. The qualifying the racers do makes more stress in 5 seconds than 5 years of hard driving in your car. And they don't get rebuilt after qualifying. The thick stuff is good for constsnt high RPM where the bearings especially need extra protection. Racing in and of itself doesn't require the use of a "race weight". The ACEA A3 rating dictates arduous service and high performance and loads and can handle an occasional track event. The higher weight race oils are for race engines w/ bigger tolerances and different pumps and such. And usually ALOT more horsepower ( but not always) which the high heat thins out. It's insurance.

Agree 100%. IMO, too thick of oil will rob some power and mileage but shouldn't do any real harm.
15w-50 synth is really thinner than 10w-40 dino. At full operating temp it shouldn't matter that much.

I hear ya. But I say stick w/ what's recommended and if that's an ACEA A3 in a 0W or 5W then do it.
And if you can squeeze 1-2 more mpg and 1-2 more horsepower, well then WTFN!!Ha ha

keep in mind I am in a warm/Hot climate in So Cal and the car
will see some track use. yes many makers specify a low viscosity to get better EPA MPG ratings.....and if I add 10 qts of 15w50 on top of ow40 - I then have a 0w-50....or is that a 15w-40 or a 10w45?

it was FUN (911 e/s)....but many reasons
tired of $400 here, $500 there, wanted a real back seat, severe lift throttle oversteer , but mainly for a new more modern car. it was a blast and fun for the day but its handling and 0-60 are surpassed by many minivans today.

What do you mean 10 qts. to top off? If you top off w/ 10 you'll have a flood...
You mean an oil change, no? Dude, you've got a great car (and an M3 but i wont hold that against you). Don't mess around w/ the thick stuff. Read my other posts. It's a waste even if your in saudi arabia. A good 5W-40 synthetic can handle ALL that so. cal can give even w/ some track days. You obviously are an enthusiast; use what is recommended. Your robbing power and MPG w/ the 15W-50. Sell it or pour it in a river. I'M KIDDING! I'm an environ mental ist. For some occasional track days you are covered w/ the 0W or 5W 40 weight synthetic. The tests they subject it to make a track day look like a sunday drive. Try 24hrs near redline on some tests and 20,000 mi changes. and these oils SURPASS these tests.

Yeah I know it takes 10W-60. That's why you're considering it im sure but..
obviously it's a different engine from a different manufacturer. It also revs, how much, 1500 more than the S4? What happened to the 5W-30 that you were asking about? Save the stuff in your garage for your other rides. It wont go bad for a year or two unopened. I don't think it's worth it to put it in for the $50 or so bucks it costs for the ten qts.
