I know, I know I shouldnt be bitching about mpg with an S4. But not even getting 18-20 on the highway baffles me. I figured this thing would just be cruising along no prob, but its taching like 3k at 75, with all this torque, I figured it would be at like 2, maybe 2500. Anyone try anything to boost their economy a little? Im trying to stay below 3k when shifting, going easy on it and all, but thats wayyyy too hard!

Default Buy a Prius. This is not, and was never intended to be, an economy model

I get 20 on long highway trips all of the time. If your getting less than 18 then you are either on and off the highway quickly, all uphill or you have a heavy right foot. Having said that I would say just enjoy the car for what it is. You'll only diminish the experience trying to answer the question of how to get a performance 4.2 V8 to give you good gas mileage

Default I just avoid thinking about the gas mileage. Like you say the grunt is amazing

I have a 1.8T that I use a lot around town but there is nothing better than accelerating up the on-ramp to the highway in the S4.

Default It would take years of hwy driving before you could break even. The only way I could see it being

a justifiable decision is if the transmission grenaded and you needed to replace the gears anyway.

Default Coasting in nuetral, when you can, if you have a MT has a big effect on MPG.

Just make sure you rev match when you go back into gear. Other than that, buy a different car. =)

yep - I get 25 in the RS so I don't see why the S4 can't equal that

Default actually, if you have the heads ported, your mileage will go up a lot.

one of the B6 guys had his heads done for $300 - which sounds low to me. Maybe $1000 for porting and $500 for gaskets and misc. bull**** if you do it yourself. Some guys have seen huge gains, like 15% increase or more.
