Default Audi Nav/MMI Question

Hey all and Happy New Year! I think the previous owner of my B6 S4 installed the Nav (read: did not come from the factory with MMI). So I have 2 SD card slots behind the nav screen and a DVD slot. Does anyone here know if it's possible to add a CD changer to my current setup? (Without using the FM!)

Default Yes you can. You'll need to buy the factory CD changer cable.

Another thing you'll need to check is your RNS-E (head unit) wiring harness to make sure that the CD Changer cable is grounded or it won't play. Or you can ground it at the cd changer box with wire but it would be better getting it grounded at the head unit.

Default I did it and installed the 6 disc glove box changer that comes in the B7

tough part was taking out the glovebox and cutting out a hole in the back so the changer would fit snug... and then wiring it properly.. I am still having issues with it for some reason but haven't got around to fixing it. IMHO the worst mod I have done, not worth the hassle, I would have rather just downlaod all my music to my sd cards and rotate.

Default It's probably because it needs to be grounded. The RNS-E doesn't send out a ground wire for the...

CD Changer. So what I did was in my RNS-E wiring harness I looped a ground wire from one spot to the one that sends it to the cd changer.

Default hmmm... you may be right Imola...

I had a friend help me with the install and we triple checked the pins.. the changer goes on but doesn't play the cd's? Doesn't grounding it just give it power...? thanks for your help

Default I did the following...

RNS-E
Phatbox
OEM Sirius

When I installed the Phatbox it wouldn't work, or it would work sporadically. Then I decided that I would try and ground it at the Phatbox itself, and the thing would work. Well we come to find out the the RNS-E doesn't pass on a "ground signal" thru the existing wiring harness.

Ever since having a new grounding wire looped thru the RNS-E wiring harness, everything works flawlessly.

One thing you can try that will be very easy is to get some small gator clips and ground the CD changer to a source. Turn it on and if everything works then that was your problem. One more thing, if you have a VAG you can see if you head unit is coded for a CD Changer also.
