Default Audiopilot TSB procedure reviewed for those who prefer to do it themselves

I never noticed the Audiopilot intervention until I got an exhaust system.
The audio volume would fluctuate and I don't know what else it was trying to compensate with, but it was getting really annoying.

Like a lot of people here I think I can do some jobs as good as or better than the dealership, so after reading the TSB a dozen times and realizing it was just a jumper wire, I figured it was doable.

Only you know whether you are skilled enough to do this TSB so if anything here looks strange then I highly recommend the dealership for this job.

Tools Needed:
Audi TSB # 04-17 (STFA)
Torx # 30 and socket set.
Audi Part # 000 979 025A $9.00 (part can do 2 mods, Automatic Group Buy
Small diag cutters
Heat shrink Tubing
Electrical Tape
Small Tye wrap
Decent Soldering Iron
Drop Light
Patience and normal hand tools
Access to a pretty recent version of vag-com device

Like most jobs it was harder to get to the amp than actually perform the mod.
Pics below show amp location
Use a soft cloth or towel draped over bumper into trunk as you will be leaning on this a lot, so please avoid scratching bumper cover with clothing or tools !!
See link at bottom to remove inner panels for sat radio..Just do the other side for Bose Amp.

Notes :
1. I only removed enough of the panels to reach the amp and tied them back.
2. I carefully cut back the insulation using diag snips..I could not unwrap it.
3. Releasing the purple lever will remove the connector...do not pull hard.
4. Replacing the connector requires movement of the purple lever...do not force it on.
5. The TB just says to remove connector cover, see pics for details on this.
6. Pay attention to locking mech. of connector cover, failure to line these up later will prevent connector from being re-attached.
The purple lever engages two little racks which lock the connector. See pics.
7. I did not cut the white wire per the TB, I scrapped away some insulation and just soldered in the yellow jumper wire, then heat shrank the whole thing.
8. Pay attention when you insert the jumper wire into the connector, the slot needs to be in the proper orientation and I "think" you only get to insert it once. See pics.
9. You need to use a vag-com of pretty recent vintage to reach the radio settings, I had to upgrade mine before I could finish the job.
10. If you look in the pics you can also see the fuel door lock mech. And the great little orange emergency fuel door release cord. Did you know that was there ?

The TB does not mention that you then need to access the SVC mode of the radio (which you just enabled with the jumper) from inside the car to turn the SVC to = 0

Just doing the mod and vag com settings still leave audiopilot on. Did your Tech review this with you ?

I wonder how many of you that has had the dealer do the mod actually have it turned off.

You should check yours and see. Hold and tap Menu button until SVC shows up.
Mine was still at 3 after the Mod
0 = off

Like any mod the second time will take 1/2 the time, I took my time and it took under 2 hours.
I hope you find this informative and useful
