That would be less than 3200 lbs under the "right" conditions, excluding me of course. :-)

Default Re: Mike and Kurt have basically said it.

I first started out at 49psi front cold and when they came in after a run they were at 53psi and rolling way beyond the side of the tread. I don't think all the pressure in the world would have stopped it rolling over.

One problem is that I no longer have the stock front sway bar. I thought the H-sport was going to help so I ebay'd the stock ones.

I'm going to try the mid 40s F next time and the rear at 50 and try that. The last run I brought the rears up to the front and it felt a decent amount more stable.

Now if our e-brake was a bit more sensative I could fix this with another method.

I think I'm going to start left foot braking too so I can do a better job of trail braking. It worked in my Formula Ford and in Autocrossing the S4 is a 2nd gear car so I don't need the clutch.

Oh, you can't leave in the spare tire for autocrossing. again the rules.

Thanks,
Chris

Default You could always go "Bobby Unser" and just disconnect the front for the day.

Interestingly, it was on an Audi that he did that for his record-setting Pike's Peak run, after the Audi engineers gave him what they thought would be the "ideal" set-up.

Default Cheap and Easy solution...

is to buy a used Miata, and use that for autoxing instead. It's what they're made for.

Default Re: Autocross understeer woes

With my current setup (Ohlins/Stasis Motorsport, H-Sport Sways) I am able to induce some oversteer when needed although I have not been able to overcome the understeer issues in some corners (the car is just too nose heavy and my tires leave something to be desired). I have the front coilovers set on full soft with rebound turned almost all the way up front and back. I typically run tire pressure equal all around (I know, but it seems to work for me). With this setup I can actually whip the back end around a bit. I am going to try to work the tire pressures next weekend and see how much that helps me.
