Awd with all season tires Vs FWD and 4 snow tires (AGAIN)
Consumer Reports Mag ( that bastion of automobile knowledge) states in their 12/04 edition. (pg 59) "In snow testing, we found that an AWD car with all-season tires has better traction than a front wheel drive car, even if it's equipped with four winter tires and traction control..." Others may disagree!

I'm guessing they are talking about traction in terms of acceleration. It's really about cummulative grip under acceleration. Even if the each snow has 25% more grip than an All Season, four All Seasons will have more grip than two Snows. That accounts for better acceleration (4 driven wheels vs 2) but the snows would still be better when brakinng.
