Default It shouldn't really be that hard actually...

Both the B5 & B6 S4's are superior cars to the 308. The 308 has had terrible problems and plus you ain't really a ballar unless your 348 or newer

Default Very different cars...

all around. Is the Ferrari a Quattrovalvole (more desirable)? Mileage? You should be able to pick up a near perfect example for ~$40K or less. The early carbuerated 308s '76-77 are more desirable also, but very finicky. I love the look, especially of the GTB coupes - but, they're not exactly "stealthy" like S4s. A 308 plus a B5 is so different from a B6 in so many ways. I loved my B5 very much, but the B6 is in a different league. Drive them all and ask yourself what you really want and go for it.

Default Do some research on the 308...

I was looking at an '80 308, but found out that the '80-'83 (maybe '82) models weren't the best choices. They were the first line with fuel injection and many owners were saying they weren't impressed. This plus the ridiculous maintenance costs kept me away.
People on their message boards suggested I looked at the 328. It was essentially the same body style, but a much better car.

Default I've been considering the same thing...

Wow I wanted a 308 in the worst way back in the late 80's but of course I could never afford one at the time.

They are within the price range now and I still love the looks but I'm a little weary about the maintenance costs. I still think about it often enough.

It's still a Ferrari though, and it generates plenty of attention wherever you go.

Default i know all of these cars pretty darn well...(long)

i know ide be happy with either way this is whats making it difficult. i can get the 308 for a touch under 30 with less then 30 thousand miles on it everything is in working order on the car and i also get a warrenty which is nice. since its an 83 it has fuel injection so maintaining the car isnt going to be all that hard not to mention the fact that its an 8 cylinder not a 12. it makes somewhere in the neighborhood of 215hp so its not brutally fast but its quick and an absolute joy to drive. and what can i say about the b5 s4 tried and true twin turbo goodness...BUT after extended drives of the b6 i was absolutly extatic. i find the shifter to be a bit notchy but i probably will get used to it with time the engine in that thing is probably the most well built piece of machinery i have ever experienced pulling hard up to 7000rpm. the brakes are fantastic. the understeer is less intrusive then on the b5 which is nice but still annoying, (i dont think i am gonna find any car nowadays that doesnt push itself)also the car hauls serious ***. as of right now i think i wanna go for the b6 and just enjoy it every day of the year instead of garaging up the 308 in my buddies shop all winter. maybe in another year or so i can pick up a testerossa which is more of an autobahn car then the pure bred 308...but oh well. besides the idea of a 20 year old kid with a ferrari is kinda absurd
