I recently picked up a 2006 (B6) A4 3.0 in manual, my dream car. Unfortunately last weekend some idiot t-boned me, and the car is a total loss. I went back to where I got my A4 and test drove some 3 and 5 series, as well as a volvo s60 R and the cars in the subject line. All were nice cars, but I remained impressed by the smooth ride, and quiet cabin in the audis.
All of the subject cars are within my price range (depending on miles). Does anyone have something to say for the 3.2 over the 4.2, or 3.0? I still have not had a chance to drive the S4 in manual, will that be a big jump from the 3.0 I am used to?
Ben

Personally, I would go with the six-speed if you can find one. Then again, I never drove the S4 with the tiptronic either. My wife has had the tip in both a 3.0L & 2.0T A4 Avant and I was never very impressed with it but they had considerably less power than the S4. In any form the S4 is a fantastic ride. Best of luck with your choice!

That being said, the deal I made with myself is that I would do any/all major maintenance and repair work myself. If you aren't comfortable with this, please be aware that this car will cost you money.
