I have a stock 06 S4, and am looking to start with basic mods. Can anyone direct me to what's available, what steps to take, and reputable vendors? I live in southern NJ, Philadelphia suburbs. I've poked around a bit and found AWE and APR. Where do I start?
thanks for any advice here.

Start off with the exhaust system. If you are just looking at a catback exhaust then you are pretty much wasting your time. Get downpipes as well. they make the big difference!! LaBree is what i have, and i am very happy with the sound, quality and performance. Then invest in coilovers. Stasis all the way!! Bigger brakes, again alcons or brembo. Then save your duckies for a supercharger, because that is pretty much it on performance mods.

I have Tiptronic transmission, and was told that downpipes won't fit, so I am limited to catback systems. Why did you choose LaBree, and what other systems did you consider?

DP's fit on TIP's, you just have to buy the DP's for a TIP
. They are different from the 6MT.
Milltek makes em, not sure about other systems. They are definitely one of the best mods for this car.

You need to decide on a budget. Audis can be modded relatively inexpensively or you can dump major $$$$ into them.
For instance, a magnaflow exhaust can be had for $700. MTM will set you back $5000+. Wheels can range from $150 Sport Editions to $1500 for custom built HRE's or 360forged. Suspension can range from $400 springs to $4000 Stasis Motorsports. Brakes can range from a $3000 front Stoptech kit to $15,000 for Audi ceramics. You get the idea.
Once you determine how much you can/want to spend, your choices will be narrowed and more clear.

This is my first post and I have owned my 2007 S4 since Aug 2009. I bought it gently used and love the car. I fell in love with Audis in the early and mid 80's when I had a series of Audi 5000 models. Since I grew up in Colorado Springs, CO, I watched Michele Mouton win the Pike's Peak hill climb in her Quattro as Audi dominated rally racing.
The B5 S4 was an item of my envy when I read about it's engine and the modifications possible. I recognize that the 4.2 may have more limited possibilities for upgrades but I am just now exploring the what they are. I’d really like to know what you, Dr.quattro, can recommend for outlets for Stasis upgrades in the San Diego area. Thanks for any help or opinions you and everyone can offer

FIRST and foremost
JHM tune - $500
piggied my stock downpipes - $400-500 from an exhaust shop to do it, down to free if you DIY
Fast Intentions 2.5" x-pipe catback exhaust - $1300
also added
JHM Lightweight Crank PUlley - $350
JHM intake spacers - $150
Apikol Snub Mount - $50
This was 18 months ago. The change was incredible. I raced a friend who was stock and demolished him. He was stunned by the difference because he kept telling me mods on an NA car don't do anything. Turns out they did something...and that was to put 4 car lengths on him from 50-120.
I also went to the dragstrip and ran 13.36 @ 106 mph vs 13.8 @ 102 stock.
Total cost of these mods was about $2800. The biggest cost is the Fast Intentions catback...which you could get used for half that, or get a new magnaflow 2.5" resonated x-pipe catback for about $700. That would get you closer to $2300...and that's a pretty big gain for the money.

After that I traded out the JHM piggie pipes for full 2.5" catless JHM downpipes (I got one of their 'beta' sets...they may be launching these one day). I also had JHM update my tune (it's always evolving) and this iteration added some power, and also added launch control IN THE TUNE. Pretty awesome.
I ran 12.9 @ 107.8 mph after those changes. That's only the fourth B6/7 S4 to run in the 12s ALL MOTOR (all 4 were JHM tuned unsurprisingly) and is faster than many of the VF/PES supercharged B6/7 S4 guys ran, to give you an idea on what a joke those $10,000 VF/PES kits are.

^^those Stasis cars are slow. ![Big Grin](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Here's what happens when 2 cars with similar exhaust setups race...when it's a JHM tune vs. a GIAC tune
