I just test drove the 335xi 6MT last week, and kept the S4 6MT I had already ordered, on order (with European Delivery
. No contest for me.
I prefer the S4's firm suspension, V8 sound, interior, and exterior style. I really found the suspension on the 335xi to be too soft and floppy. It really needs a sports suspension option to compete with the S4.
BMW's iDrive interface is just plain fugly. I also worry about the long-term reliability of the 335's twin turbos until they've been battle tested in the real world for another year or two. I do like the higher level of iPod integration in iDrive vs the S4's Nav.
Subjectively for me, the S4 just feels like a special car when you're driving it. While the 335xi felt quick, but pedestrian.

The suspension felt a bit too soft and rebounded a little to marshmallow like for my dad and I. We drove a sport package RWD 335i and felt nothing for it. It was fast, yes, but it is just a fast car, no spirit, just not for me or him. I think price is where this car gets all of its praise. For the price its a steal, but I would rather find a CPO S4 than get a new 335.

Mazda hatch in the recent car handling shoot-out. Came in last in nearly every category but ride quality.

Please share your experiences. Dealer tells me that he can try to find an '07 to my taste, or order one from the factory, which would be an '08. If I buy rather than lease, it makes more sense to order exactly the way I want it, and go for the MY'08.

usually, they are a good indicator of what the market is going for. You can option it out and find the invoice price, target price etc... leasing will depend on the leasing company and region of the country... IMO I wouldnt lease an S4 though... btw.. if your going to custom order an s4, why not get eurpoean delivery or wait for the S5? good luck
