Begining to believe "engine whine" is normal
I tested another 2004 S4 today in my quest to determine if the engine whine I am hearing in my 04 is normal PTO noise and I am starting to believe that's the case. The car I tested whined as much as mine. I am trying to understand how much whine is normal. We had our first warm day of the winter today and my engine did not whine as much when it was real cold outside, can this be the PTO or should I investigate further?
As I mentioned in previous posts I did change the idler and tensioner pullies but the noise is still present.
The noise is there strictly under acceleration and not at idle or cruising speeds. Any ideas if this is truely normal PTO noise? Are there any 04 S4 videos someone can point me to so that I can compare my engine whine to others?
I would like to do the pullies once again but at $300 parts/labour I would like to research it a bit further.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Can we hear what yours sounds like? I've heard a handful of B6's and they pretty much sound the same
It would be easier if we heard yours to see if it sounded like the ones we've heard.

I don't own a video camera but I will try to borrow one so that I can record the sound.
I was thinking....what if I remove the serpentine belt and take it for a stint around the block, if the whine is still there I could rule out the TSB involving the tensioner and idler pullies as well as the possibility of the alternator bearings. What do you guys think about this? Has anyone tried this?

Whine is normal, but...
Once I had low powersteering fluid which gave a slightly different kinda whine. If you listen to some s4 exhaust clips on youtube, you can usually hear the 'normal' engine whine.
