Default what car was that behind the M3 that CAUSED the accident?

He should be banned from racing.

Pontiac GTO... that kind of bumping is pretty common, only it doesn't always happen around berms

Default Seems like the big lesson is for the track itself. . .

Smooth out that berm, or history might repeat. Next time the results might not be so good. Imagine that happening at a driver ed class to a car with no roll cage. Driver = dead.

Default Some more insight...

This was a very viscious wreck. Joey Hand (the M3 driver) was fighting with the GTOR for the entire race. I was sitting at the top of Madness and didn't personally witness the wreck, but for more laps than I could count, the GTOR was pushing in every turn. The GTOR obviously had the torque to pull out of the turns better than the M3, but the M3 appeared to pull away on the straights--Great racing!

The problem is that this was near the end of the race (2 laps to go I recall) and the GTOR driver was getting very impatient. As the saying goes, he could catch the M3, but not pass him. Was the M3 blocking? Yes, this is a race. Should the officials black flag him? Maybe, but the crowd was enjoying the battle.

Now, on to the track: Mid Ohio Sports Car Course, 2.2 mile config. You will note the M3 gets airborne upon hitting the crossover part of the track. The crossover is brand new and used for the drivers school, not racing. This used to be all grass. You can pretty much bet that Mid-Ohio will need to change something. Perhaps a temporary tire wall?

Default I agree. So many features around tracks, unfortunatly, often it takes an accident to realize danger

... hind site is always easy. Glad he was ok and will have a good story to tell!
