Default BRAKE warning light flashes 3 times.

Hello guys,

I had this BRAKE warning light come up and flash 3 times now in the past two days.

I did some research and it seems that reason for it is the low brake fluid level.

Couple questions I have:

1) How do I see what the actual level is? I did find the reservoir but I can't seem to see the level.

2). What are the possible causes of this?

What I did notice recently, as I just purchased this 2004 S4 recently used, is that I get the brake whistle when I come to a stop, like an indication of worn out pads.
Could it be that because of worn out pads it has to travel more to apply brakes and it is causing the lower level brake fluid?

Sorry for many questions, but I wanted to see what is the best way to go about finding out the cause of this issue.

Thanks

It is over 50K, just barely, but it is out of the warranty I believe.

I did see quite a few postings with the same issue.
Is this issue common for A4/S4?

Thanks

Thanks for info on the dip stick. I will check it now.

Are the issue with my pads that are seem to be going soon, you think that it is related to brake fluid being low?

Thanks

Default Unrelated

Sorry about the last post. Hit the button before I typed. You should really sit down with the owners manual and read through what is in there to get acquainted with the various levels etc. Once you've done that order a repair CD from Bentley on repairs and any changes you might want to make - eg removing parts of the interior you might want to remove etc. Also if you don't have an owners manual Bentley can also provide reprints of that - although they are on back order at the moment

Yeah I still need to read over more of the owners manual to understand what some of the warning lights mean.

This issue with brake fluid just sounds a bit concerning to me. I had 5 different cars (Japaneses and European) before this Audi, and never ever heard or had the brake fluid levels issue.

I was just wondering if that is something that is occurs often with this car (same as when low engine oil warning), or maybe it is related to a bigger issue with the brake system.

Thanks again.

You're thinking of power steering....my brake fluid lid doesn't have a measure stick on it.

Default When the pads get thin there is more fluid in the caliper than when you have full pads

So with thin pads the fluid leaves the reservoir. If you add more fluid, you will probably have to drain some when the pads are changed.
