smell. Could that be because I have a newer S4 and they fixed a problem?

The clutch feel softer though since I've made those runs but nothing more...

Default dude, don't do that...

Are you saying you're revving the engine to 5k, and slipping the clutch to get a good launch? That is freaking insane, you'll be out a clutch in 20k mi if you make a habit out of that.

Furthermore, I'm pretty certain it is actually slower than the friendlier techniques.

read this

Default I made: "de-clutching" and reving at the same time. A "usual" AWD launch. It's way different than

a drop clutch at 5k... The clutch is taking some abuse but if you do it right, the clutch should last a while. I've been driving several rear wheel drive in the last few years but had several performance AWD car in the past and when it's done properly and fast enough not to burn the clutch, if it fails it's because the clutch was weak IMO. In the lot I had was 2 Eagle Talon, one lasted 135000km and the other one, I sold her at 50k.

Edited: Just read your link, that's pretty the same as I did... Let's compare my launch to the launch that was made on RS6.com when he was doing ~0-265km/h

We'll see,

Sylvain

Default it can't be the same...

I never get above 2k rpm before the clutch is fully disengaged. Play with it, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Your talon was turbo, don't forget that there's an extra need to rev on turbos, to get a jump on the lag - which doesn't apply here.

I understand that you're not dropping your clutch at 5k. I'm just saying that in the experimenting I did, even revving to 3k was way to much no matter how gentle you engage. There is to much potential to be off just a bit, and over-power the clutch. Not only does that take about 500 miles off it's life in 2 seconds, there's an excellent chance of melting it.

And even if you never mess up, I (with my butt dyno) would estimate that making a habit out of 3k launches would take ~25% off your clutch's life.

With what I've described, the chances of overpowering the clutch are way under 25%. Give it a try - I know you're thinking it can't be that fast since the engine is so weak down there. You will be surprised, it will step up.
