BECAUSE THEY DON'T, but because they didn't have the parts, even though this was my second visit for the Tsb and both times they told me they had the parts. The first time, the service writer didn't order the parts. The second time, they said I had a "different" alternator. I actually believe they used MY parts on someone else's S4, and then had to order a new part for my car? Word of advice. If you know you will need parts for your Audi service, (and actually know what parts are needed) make sure they have them available prior to you appointment. This will help to eliminate the typical 2 visit Ausi repair system. One to diagnose, the other to repair because of no part availability on the first visit.

They replaced my alternator and also replaced the relevant belt. But they had a real problem getting the right torque on the belt. My whine/noise was louder when it was cold out and since I live in Ottawa (second coldest capital on the planet), it got quite loud. The first time they replaced everything they left the car overnight and when they started it the next day they still had a noise. So they played with the torque on the belt until they got it right. Between getting parts (they had to order some) and getting the belt right(needing to leave let the car get very cold overnight) it took over a week. Car is fine now, no noise at all.
Having said that, the dealer was good, kept me up to speed all the way and gave me an A4 loaner. Interestingly, they also sell Porsche at this dealer and the service guy said they actually used to have a similar problem with some 911s way back.
