Inspection II is typically done every 40-60k miles (right after your warranty expires) and is based on fuel consumption.
Also, Inspection I (which costs about $1k) must be done every 25k miles on the M3.
Not to mention the fact that BMW sells the ONLY oil that can be used in the car (which is expensive).
Any brand can suffer from bad cars, but don't think that an M3 (especially out of warranty) is any better than an Audi
