Default yes i remember this post from you. sadly my car is consuming more than 1qt every 1k miles i mistated

before and said liters instead of quarts. but it does take about 2 qts per 1k miles. every mechanic ive spoken too has said that is excessive and now i have the blue smoke to boot

Default Now I am not saying that agree with the statement from Audi, but.....

(and mind you I have never had a vehicle use more than 1/2 quart of oil in a service interval "I change it every 5k on the dot") speaking from the dealer side (I am the service manager at Manhattan Motorcars) Porsche specs up to 1.5 liters per 1000km = 620 miles! Now try to explain that to someone that just spent $150k on a new 997 Turbo.... All manufacturers have this standard or close to it - and that is all across the board weather it is a domestic, import, or exotic.

Default They bring the cylinder to TDC(compression stroke) and replace the spark plug with a pressure gauge.

Then they fill the combustion chamber with compressed air and see how long it takes to depressurize, or "leak down".

It will tell you if it's the rings or valve seats are worn, and it's more informative than a compression test.

Default The standard exists as it is so that Mfgs will NEVER have to pay a claim

for excessive oil consumption. IT IS A COP OUT. Your car needs to be literally spewing oil before it would ever be considered Excessive.

Default Be prepared for a lengthy and annoying oil consumption test..

You're probably looking at several trips to dealer with a wait while they document mileage and oil level every time your oil light comes on.

Really a PIA especially once they tell you the consumption is within the Audi guidelines and there is nothing wrong.

What grade oil are you using when you top off?
