A follow up to the thread a couple pages back. After the car not starting repeatedly in the morning (then finally starting after 5 minutes of turning the key) I took it in a couple weeks ago and they replaced the clutch switch. Again, this morning the car would not start again, so Im taking it in thursday and theyre going to try either the ignition switch or the starter. Since it seems everybody with similar problems had the starter replaced and it seemed to fix it, any ideas on how to get the dealer to replace both the starter and the ignition switch? I have a feeling theyre going to opt to replace the cheaper of the two which is the ignition switch. Also a question for the people who have had this problem, normally when the starter is bad you can hear a clicking before it finally fires off, the car is silent? Same experiences?

Well, I will tell you that it took three visits to fix. They had to go through all three before replacing the starter which was the problem for me. When I would turn the key no noise was heard. Good luck!

So you had clutch switch (1st visit), ignition switch (2nd visit), starter (3rd and final visit) replaced and no associated parts???

For some it's been a bad ground even though other things power up.

Yea, really was a pain. I had to take my car home each time to find the next morning it would not start for 2-10min. Boy did I ever get frustrated (especially since they would keep it over nite and test it in the morning - only seemed to happen if the car had been sitting for awhile). It seemed to get worse with each part replacement until they replaced the starter (I am not sure if it really is the starter or the starter solenoid - some think it is the solenoid.)

Yeah thats what I wanted to know. I suspect the starter solenoid may be a cheap part (dont really know???) so I may try to get my service advisor to at least replace that in addition to the ignition switch, if I cant get him to do the starter right away. You would think there would be a TSB on this, It seems like alot of people have had this problem...

same experiance as webstir. Dealer did not replace starter till the third visit - even though I had mentioned that its the issue. If you like you can have your SA call Audi in burlingame CA and talk to Roger...

I am having the same problem you are, how did you fix it? I already replaced my starter last night. Car will not crank, turn key and I get nothing. Should I check out this clutch switch, where is it?
