Default it used to be that you had to be at over half throttle in first, don't know if there is a manual

Default It works according to RPM...

And it's used to create High EPA numbers for fuel and Low EPA numbers for emmisions (sp?) Ohh Well.

Skip Shift

So, presumably, R&T tests were based on a car with skip shift active, thus higher fuel economy.

Default Potential deal-breaker for me too

I have to say the S4 Avant V8 is my dream car. So maybe I'll just suck it up and buy one anyway. But my work car is a Saab 9-5 Aero wagon which gets me 32mpg on the highway (sometimes more) and at least 24-25mpg around town). Four cylinders vs. Eight.

My '92 UrS4 is about the same weight as the new S4, but down about 100hp. It gets about 18-20 around town and the highest I've seen on trips is 27mpg.

I always feel so much "Greener" when I drive the Saab!

Did you figure in drag & weight? Two very different cars with different refined motors.

Default it has a lot to do with gearing too...

I believe the highway tests are done in the highest gear... which most Audi's have all acceleration gears and no 'EPA gear' so to speak.

Default I'm glad there's other people on this board who feel the

this way about fuel economy. I felt so guilty when I switched from my Honda to my S4. If the new S4 is less fuel efficient, I think Audi may be headed in the wrong direction. Why can't they work on making their cars more efficient? Or is this not a priority with their buyers?

Default I had a Z06... Skipshift/fuel efficiency

Skip shift is annoying but you get used to it very fast (in 1 week or less...) and you just shift either before or after the skip-shift power band (20% trottle or less between ~2200-~2750RPM)...

Just for the fuel efficiency:
I was managing with my SVT Cobra 99 on the highway 400km for 60 liters. With my Z06 Vette, 620km for 60 liters... It's unbelievable how they have manage to make the Vette take a so small amount of gas for a V8 5.7l 405hp...

Chevy specs: 7.2 liters / 100km on the highway
12.2 liters / 100km in the city...

If 2 seats is enough for you and you have no winter, this is IMO the car. I tried the "old" bi-turbo S4 and M3 before buying the Vette and it's really well built (confort, options, etc...) for a American car and 3 different cars, seriously.

Isn't the vette do for a redesign?
