Default Chip... Is it worth it?

Hey guys, I've been looking around to maybe chip the V8 but it doesn't seem like theres much of an advantage to doing it? Seems like it only will give ~12 HP and maybe 10ft/lb.... any advice on whether to go for it or not. Any suggestions on a brand? I was thinking the one from ECS was the best bet. But again is 12 HP worth $500?

It really depends on how valuable power is to YOU. I like to look at this consideration from a dollar/hp perspective. A chip, like the one you mention will give you 12hp for $500 which is $41 per hp(btw, Revo was dynoed at around 14whp). A full exhaust (DPs and CB) will yield you about 18whp for a minimum of $2200 which is $122 per hp.

So, by comparison, the chip is the best bang for your buck for the V8 powered cars. But again, is 12hp worth $500 to YOU?

Ok what about chips like the one in the link that costs only $70 and tells you that you can gain up to 50hp. Is that complete myth or is there some truth in it?

[edit]100% complete myth. Their claimed product doesn't exist and what's illustrated is completely inapplicable for our cars. [edit] Looking at the website more, notice that every car and associated chip has the same claimed improvement. No matter what car it is, from an old Hyundai Accent to a Ferrari, you get 50hp..... I don't know if I've ever seen anything as bogus as that website.

I love this part... "The SLR chip contains software to recognize the computer of your vehicle and then apply the correct tune for your exact engine size. This software uses the latest technology to recognize your ECU of your vehicle and it automatically applies the tuning software for your EXACT engine. Every SLR chip for each model of vehicle on this website contains different software for your exact vehicle and engine size."

If you have to pick the best chip... what brand would you go with? I've been wanting to do it for a while and I already have a Milltek catback exhaust on it. Also are any of the intake systems worthwhile? I've been under the impression there are very minimal modifications you can do to a B6 aside from dropping $10k on a supercharger.

Your impression is thankfully wrong, http://jhmotorsports.com/shop/catalog/ . Their shop car, a b6 with high miles, ran 12.4 on stock internals. If you have questions you should call them. They have a great reputation as far as products and service. Cheers.

Something like the APR chip may only increase the MAX HP by a few ponies, but the chips do a great job of MAXIMISING the area under the HP curve. IE, the chips make your ponies available sooner.

Just some food for thought. The APR chip tuning is also currently on sale with us click here for ordering and shipping details.
