Default Clutch Problems

Just upgraded from a 00 S4 to an 05. Long story short, 2 days after buying it the clutch pedal hit the floor and didn't come back. It has 49k and had it towed to the dealer. After tearing it down, the slave cylinder had melted down and there was come clutch disc material in the bell housing. They claim that the car was abused and that caused the failure. How much abuse could cause the slave cylinder to melt down? I'm going back in the morning and argue that the slave cylinder melt down caused the problem and that they should replace it under warranty and I'll cover the clutch parts. Any thoughts?

Default who knows. I'm still in this one for 2 more years of warranty. After that I need to decide

if I'm going to keep it as a daily and get something RWD and 2 doors ala exige or 930 or E30 M3...or a B9S4 (provided it comes in an avant).

Default Same thing happened to me

When I bought my CPO'ed 2004 S4 with 30K miles. It was not abused, and it happened soon after I bought the car, so I assume that it was wear and tear from the prior owner (I noticed it slip once on the way home from the dealership when I bought it and thought nothing of it). I had the MA lemon law on my side since I bought it from a dealer, but still had to fight tooth and nail to have it fixed under warranty. I have heard mixed results on getting warranty coverage for the replacement clutches generally, so fight hard for it and you may get lucky.

They are now saying that they heard a noise in the tranny before they took it out and if the clutch has exploded that it won't be covered under warranty. They are going to take the pressure plate, clutch and fylwheel off this afternoon to check their condition to determine if they will open up the tranny under warranty. The mechanic claims that the material from the clutch is from downshifting at high RPMs and he sees it alot in GTIs that young guys bring in.

Default Clutch Problems Solved

They took the clutch out and it was shot. The clutch lining was all gone on one side of the disc. It had come apart and was laying in the bell housing. Putting in a new clutch and flywheel and the dealer that I bought it from (Global Motorsports in Nashville) is going to split the cost.
