Cold Start Screaching/whinning noise @ 1500 RPM
I have a brand new 2004 S4 with only 740 miles on it. When I initially start the car when cold I hear a screaching noise until the car warms up. I then gave the car a little gas and at about 1500 RPM the noise is back. Jack Daniels Audi said they couldnt diagnose the problem and to bring it in for maintenance but I am skeptical as when I had my A4 they would always dismiss any problem as normal. HELP!!!

Can't check the pump..but you can check the reservoir
The pump is actually pretty hard to get to. Lots of Audis I have had have had issues with leaking power steering lines..leaking reservoirs...which result in low fluid..which sometimes takes out a power steering pump..and sometimes the steering rack.

I have been told this is normal
It is a whining whistling sound until the car warms up and it only happens when it's cold. I think a few others on the forum have said they experience this as well. I will ask the dealer when I go in for my 5k service.

mine did this as well but went away as the car warmed up. Well, I took it in for 10k oil change and I am getting a new engine! Check to see if you are losing coolant as well.
