Default Confused about suspension mods?

I am a little confused about the amount of negativity of upgrading the S4's suspension...namely to lower it. Don't you hate that ugly fender gap as much as I do. My S4 is still on order, but the first thing I want to do is put new wheels and coilovers to give it the right stance. I know the suspension is already first rate, I'd upgrade it just to improve the looks. Is that so bad?

Default Your intent may be just for looks but...

by changing your stock suspension to a coilover you will improve your handling and braking too.
To what extent, this is unknown will the ride comfort degrade? Again an unknown but I doubt you will be displeased with it especially if you go for a street coilover kit, like H&R.

Default You're right, it would be for...

Yes, I would take the added performance. The main reason I would opt and spend more money for coilovers is that I've made the mistake of only changing the springs to lower a car. On my current car, it wore out the shocks quickly and I had to change over everything. So, I've learned from experience not to cut corners.

Default Is there a coilover kit available from H&R for the S4?...

The reason I ask is from my own experience with H&R, the coilover kit for the B6 A4 is excellent. It offered an excellent blend of performance while the ride quality remained very good. To me this kit on the A4 was perfect for road use. I moved on to another kit, the Bilstein PSS 9 because I track my car. I wanted something with stiffer linear springs on all four corners and to be able to adjust the shocks, was an even better bonus. Make a heck of a difference on bumpy or wet tracks.

Default ugly fender gap?

Are you joking? Like any car the S4 suspension will settle after you put a few miles on it. I think people are negative on lowering the S4 because tucking your tires into the wheel wells looks pretty ghetto.

Default At least the retail price is a lot better then what I paid for the A4...

Shop around for a better price because I know some people got the A4 version for a lot less. Originally when the kit ame out for the A4 it was around $2100 or $2200 and since I got my kit in the first shipment from Germany I paid big time. Within 6 or 8 months the price had droped to less then $1500. I was not as happy camper.

Default I think it's the fact you want to do it for looks, not performance..

that there is such a negative reaction. If you need to turn this into more of a street racer, then go for it. However, many of us bought the car knowing it was not an M3, but a great all-around sports sedan.
