convertibles at ACNA events (for jpc-s4 and others)
I just got this email (read the last sentence):
Many of you have asked Indiana Chapter members, "When are you going to have another event at Putnam?" Due to this strong demand, the Indiana Chapter of the ACCNA is proud to invite you to our third Driver's Safety School at Putnam Park on June 26th & 27th, 2006. We're excited to have Larry Boyer as our Chief Instructor. If you've never been to a safety school with Larry, his special take on car control will leave you laughing and smiling while making you a better driver. Since this is an Audi Car Club event, membership will be required. We will also be following the safety standards set forth by the national organization including the use of open or closed faced helmets with an M or SA95 rating, and the exclusion of convertibles.

You should include a clarification...cars allowed in "low speed" events
such as driver's skills exercises, auto-crosses, and winter driving schools vrs "high speed" events such as track driving where higher speeds and multiple cars are involved.
Ask ACNA for the specifics. They will also give you the requirements for convetibles/roadsters for road course events.

that ACNA no-convertible policy took effect this year only
the only exception is if you have a FULL CAGE on your convertible, like a couple of the Spec Miatas we had at Buttonwillow recently.
other than than that, you are SOL even if you have a roll bar.
it does suck for all the TT and A4/S4 cabs out there.

Again, not that I doubt this for that particular event, but...
...there are obviously exceptions. Is it that the local chapters can choose to follow these guidelines, or must they follow them? According to Craig Liechty's e-mail about the Mid-Ohio event, convertibles ARE allowed IFF they have a four-point roll bar. The same was true of the event I attended last weekend at MAM...
At this point, it's almost a semantic argument, and not worth too much. If we can agree to disagree, then we can go on our merry ways...

I tried to challenge some hearts and minds on this...
...but all I got was a bunch of grief.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/lrqc/msgs/67558.phtml">Convertible Thread</a></li></ul>

It's unfortunate for those with vertibles, but a crash at the ACNA WG 2 last August...
would have doomed the driver/instructor in a stock roadster (convertible). A '98 BMW 328i (iirc) went off the track at turn 10, came back on the track, snapped around and hit the barrier full on...backwards. Car flipped over, backwards and pancaked. Good roof structure, driver okay (went to the horsepistol to be checked for an 'elevated heart rate'). Had it had been an open top, it would have had some dire consequences [without] a roll cage.
