Default Coolant smell in car

Has anybody had a strong smell of coolant inside the car? Mine just started today.

Default I think someone else had that problem...

I think it turned out to be a major problem in the block. I forget, but do a search. Good luck!

Default Are you sure it's not wiper fluid?

The windshield fluid has a distinct smell after you use it. It should disappear shortly after spraying with it. If it's truly coolant you're smelling, agree with Chris129 and get the block checked immediately!

I had an occasional sweet smell that was most likely coolant. During the same period of time, my coolant level was dropping gradually.

I suggest taking a wax pencil and marking your level on the reservoir while the car is ice cold. This was, you can check in the future if you are truly losing coolant. Unlike what some folks will tell you, it is *not* normal to lose coolant.

When I went to change my oil, I took off the undercarriage plastic shroud and noticed a coolant line that had some crud crusted up around a joint. This must have been the minor leak. Looks like it has stopped. Have not gotten the smell and have not lost more fluid. Yet.

I had the same symptom and ended up replacing a liquid seal in the engine block, it took over a month! There was a coolant leak, a "known" audi issue, I was out of control upset. I hope not to have another major problem again, or I will have to resort to extreme measures.
